There is never a dull moment in college football recruiting.

In what I’m sure will make Ohio State Buckeyes fans and coaches very nervous, four-star linebacker Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, GA/Central Gwinnett) made a surprise visit to the campus of the Tennessee Volunteers over the past weekend.

Earlier in the week there were rumors swirling that Johnson would be making the trip to Knoxville, TN. As the weekend drew near, those rumors apparently were “shot” down and the report was that Johnson would not be taking the official visit. But the weekend came and went, and sure enough Johnson was taking a visit.

So what does this mean when it comes to Johnson and the Buckeyes?

Buckeye fans I would be nervous, but not too nervous. Obviously this puts everyone on edge as it seems Johnson was hush-hush when it came to this visit. Johnson has flipped his commitment once already (Auburn Tigers to Buckeyes), and who’s to say that will not happen again? Now I’m not saying that this will happen again, but it is a slight possibility.

This recruiting season has been full of decommits and flipping, as every other season has as well. National Signing Day is just over a week away and the last thing any fan of the Buckeyes wanted to see is one of their top recruits making a surprise visit somewhere else. Anything can happen from now until then, however, I do believe that Johnson will stay put with the Buckeyes.

It’s the joys of recruiting in this day and age and for fans around the nation, this season will just get crazier. Get your popcorn ready, the show has only just begun.
