National Signing Day is in full swing and keeps rolling as one of the nation’s top cornerbacks Mackensie Alexander put pen to paper and signed with the Clemson Tigers.
Alexander took official visits not only to Clemson, but also the Texas A&M Aggies, Mississippi State Bulldogs and Auburn Tigers, with no clear cut favorite announced for the talented corner. Alexander did take his final official visit to Auburn just a couple weeks ago, and I thought maybe that might have swayed his decision. However, it’s head coach Dabo Swinney who eventually won out.
Although Swinney and company may not have a top-15 class, landing a player as talented as Alexander will definitely add even more talent to a Tigers team who looks to assert their dominance in the ACC for years to come.
Auburn on the other hand loses out on another talented recruit as that program looks to be on a fast downward spiral. The program has been disappointing to say the least after winning the national championship three years ago, and the firing of Gene Chizik just proves that.
Clemson adds a great defensive piece in Alexander as they look to get over the hump in what could be a tougher conference than most would think. Swinney will look to build on momentum of last year, and Alexander will not only help the cause, but could possibly be the player that builds even more momentum for the program in years to come. Look for Alexander to make a huge impact for Swinney and staff.
