Florida Gators‘ recruit Chris Walker likes to produce highlights on the court and sound bites off it.
The exciting Walker committed to Florida in mid-2012 and will team up with another top talent in Kasey Hill, yet to appear on our prep basketball rankings. Walker has big expectations for super athletic duo.
“Together we will be the best duo in college and we will win a national championship,” Walker said a full 15 months before he’s even scheduled to wear a Gators jersey for the first time. “You heard it here first.”
Having confidence is one thing, but backing it up is another. That’s not something Walker has a problem with.
A 6′-9″ athletic beast, Walker is comfortable around the basket and plays with an above-the-rim game. His quickness and relentless effort on the glass means he’s hard to stop, but Walker has ways to go before he can be called even a good offensive player. He may not be the most polished player in the class of 2013, but he is the most intriguing.
“I can shoot 3s now,” said Walker, describing his playing style back in 2012.
“I can finesse you. I can dunk on you. I can guard anything, and I’m rebounding better. When I block shots I catch the ball. I can post you up with my back to the basket and hit you with a post move. Or I can face you up and use my quickness to blow by you.”
Walker has previously stated he thinks he’ll be at Florida for just a year before jumping into the pros, but that might not be in Walker’s best interest. NBA teams line up for long, athletic guys they hope will one day turn into a David Robinson or Kevin Garnett. That rarely happens and Walker has big strides to make before he’s NBA ready.
