Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Thad Matta has done it again.
The Garfield Heights (Ohio) center Dave Bell is rapidly improving and he will be a beast by 2014. He also recently committed to the Buckeyes. He is an athletic center who stands at 6-foot-9 and he is just starting to tap into his potential.
“Yes, Dave committed to Ohio State today,” said his high school coach Sonny Johnson.
Once State offered there was no real question for Bell. He wanted to stay home and the Buckeyes will be lucky to have him.
“Thad Matta offered him today,” said Johnson. “Ohio State is just the top school in Ohio and it is where he wanted to go so he figured there was no point in waiting.”
Bell is only a three star center on Scout.com, but Bell’s upside is too great for the Buckeyes to pass up. They should feel lucky that they were able to lock Bell up before the talk about his improving game spread to the other top programs. Now all Thad Matta needs to do is get a quality point guard in the 2014 class to feed Bell the rock. One thing’s for sure, the Buckeyes are now an even more attractive location to whoever that point guard might be. Tyus Jones, the top player in the 2014 class, is still considering the Buckeyes, so watch out for that.
