Top 2014 CB Nick Watkins’ Prospect Profile
Nick Watkins is one of best players in the college football 2014 recruiting. He plays both cornerback and wide receiver for Bishop Dunne High School (Dallas, TX), but he will probably be strictly a cornerback at the next level. He is currently ranked the fifth-best cornerback in the 2014 class, according to Scout.
Watkins is one of the hardest-hitting cornerbacks in the class, and he is a threat to run his interceptions back for big time yardage every time. He has the potential to be a shut-down corner at the college level, but he will need to improve his footwork a littler bit. He shows off his incredible hands at the 1:20 mark in the video below.
I love the hit he lays down at the :18 mark of the video as well. That is the type of play that can make him even effective at stopping running backs, but he will need to put on a bit more weight to take down running backs at the college level.
He has the added benefit of playing in Texas against high quality competition, so schools know that his success is not the result of playing mediocre opponents. Watkins measures at six feet tall and 210 pounds, and has offers from the top football programs in the country. He has not narrowed his list, but we will keep you updated on that here at Rant Sports Prep.
