Trevion Thompson is the fourth-rated wide receiver in the 2014 college football recruiting class. He plays with speed and agility that sure is fun to watch on film. He spreads the field for his quarterback and he has the leaping ability to out-jump cornerbacks for the ball in a jaw-dropping fashion. He has college ready hands already, and he will be an exciting talent at the next level.
He does need to improve on his ability to evade tackles after the catch, but that will improve with time. His route running is pretty solid, and he improvises against zone coverages already to find the vulnerable gaps in the defense. His catch the at the 1:52 mark of the video below is a great example of how much he can affect the game.
The North Carolina Tar Heels‘ program has shown Thompson a lot of attention, and they clearly don’t want the Durham product to go to school elsewhere. The Heels are probably recruiting his mom as hard as him, and are using the fact that she can see her son play and still live at home as a selling point. Thompson may end up with the Heels, but he might also consider a more respected program to get the most out of his abilities. For now, we will just have to wait and see.
