Andrew Wiggins’ visit to UNC didn’t go exactly to plan.
The prized recruit from the class of 2013 made his final official visit on Saturday night for UNC’s showdown against Duke, as the world, or specifically four colleges, eagerly await his decision.
Wiggins wore a Toronto Raptors cap as he visited North Carolina, but his presence couldn’t lift the Tar Heels to victory as Duke cruised to a dominant 69-53 win. UNC got off to a torrid start as Duke raced away with a 14-0 lead, going into the half with an 18 point advantage before finishing off the blowout in the second half.
While UNC were far from impressive against Duke, a trend that has existed all season for this season, one game hopefully won’t impact Wiggins’ decision. The loss may have pushed the Tar Heels further behind Kentucky and Florida State in the recruiting process — Wiggins is said to have close ties to both programs, and Roy Williams and UNC were already considered at a disadvantage heading into the Duke match up.
Wiggins was reportedly seen post-game hanging out with six-foot-nine, 2013 Tar Heels signee Kennedy Meeks. He came into the visit with high expectations.
“I’m definitely looking forward to visiting (this) weekend,” Wiggins told SNY.tv last week. “It’s a great rivalry and two great schools.”
If Wiggins decides to go to Tar Heels, it would setup a potentially storied rivalry between the No.1 prospect and a former No.1 prospect from the class of 2013, Jabari Parker, who committed to Duke in February.
