Jabari Parker Meets Michelle Obama at “Let’s Move” Campaign
Simeon Career Academy’s forward Jabari Parker spoke at an event promoting first lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign earlier this month at McCormick Place as reported earlier by the Chicago Tribune’s coverage.
“I told them about my experience, my background and what it took to get to where I am,” Parker told the Tribune. “I also focused on nutrition and what health is in everyday life.”
Parker was impressed by Michelle’s humility and he will have a busy summer ahead of him joining the Duke University Blue Devils.
Michelle Obama is a graduate of Whitney Young high school; hope she didn’t hold it against Parker that he helped eliminate the Dolphins from the Class 4A playoffs.
Parker then went on to win his fourth state title and he was recently named the McDonald’s high school player of the year. It will be interesting to see if he can add another Gatorade player of the year award to his mantle this summer.
That is not set in stone, though as it has been a fantastic year in high school basketball; Andrew Wiggins in particular could have a shot at nabbing it from Parker.
Wonder if Parker will ever get to play a little ball with Michelle’s husband. If he stays on his current track, then he could be playing that game sooner rather than later.
