I kind of saw this coming, although didn’t want to admit it. John Calipari is a recruiting machine.

Julius Randle, a the 6-foot-9 forward who recently led Prestonwood Christian Academy to their second consecutive state championship, chose the Kentucky Wildcats over Kansas, Florida and Texas.

“I loved all the schools and all the coaches, but the final straw for me was the system (at UK),” Randle told ESPNU. “I felt like the system at Kentucky was a great system, and they have a lot of great players going in there, so you’re going to have to battle. I play USA Basketball with a lot of great players, so I think I’ll adjust well… To be able to battle with those guys every day in practice is only going to make me better and help me prepare for the next level. Playing with great players was a plus for me. It wasn’t a negative at all.”

The McDonald’s All-American joins a recruiting class that includes the nation’s number one point guard Andrew Harrison, number one shooting guard Aaron Harrison, and number one center Dakari Johnson.

The class also includes Marcus Lee, James Young and Derek Willis. Quite a strong addition to the team as constructed; they were already thought to be a contender next year and this will only add to the pressure. They are already being compared to Michigan’s Fab Five in terms of freshman year talent, but we will just have to see how the team develops together.
