The 2013 men’s March Madness tournament began today and shockingly the Kentucky Wildcats are not participating this year. That is something I predicted when Nerlens Noel went down with his excruciating ACL tear. For the Wildcats though, they are looking forward at the 2014 national championship with a number of incredible players coming next year.
Dallas forward Julius Randle recently chose the Wildcats over the Kansas Jayhawks and his addition gives them 6 McDonald’s All Americans coming to Lexington next year.
“That’s a dominant group,” the informed Scout.com analyst Evan Daniels said. “That’s three top-five players. Six five-star prospects. I keep thinking every year Calipari can’t keep one-upping himself, and he continues to do it. What he has accomplished on the recruiting trail is something we have never seen before.”
The Michigan Fab Five recruiting class only had 5 players of this Kentucky classes’ talent level; so some analysts are calling the Kentucky class even greater than that class. The Julius Randle and Chris Webber comparisons will not end any time soon either. Shoutout to Jalen Rose of that Fab Five team and Bill Simmons of Grantland for a fantastic live stream of March Madness coverage that I am listening to as I type today.
Gatorade State Players of the year were announced today, so there will be a lot of coverage of those players coming up this week.
