Harrison Barnes and Doug McDermott were once teammates at Ames High School in Iowa. They actually went two years without losing a game and they were a dynamic duo together, which led to Barnes being rated the top player in the country. McDermott was often amazed at how early in the morning Barnes would be in the weight room.
Barnes went on to the University of North Carolina and to the brink of a Final Four last year. McDermott went to play for his dad at Creighton where he is now the go to player.
This year, McDermott is attempting to get to the elite eight himself. The Heels eliminated Creighton last year and this year who stands in their way, but the Heels arch rival the Duke Blue Devils. You can bet that Barnes will be watching that game tomorrow night and will root on his former high school teammate to beat his old college rivals. We’ll just have to wait and see if Barnes will one day celebrate McDermott’s entrance into the pros. He could help his stock quite a bit by showing up tomorrow versus the Blue Devils.
McDermott has a well rounded and efficient game. He hit all of his free throws in Creighton’s last game and he shoots efficiently from the field as well. He’ll need to show up for Creighton to advance to the next round.
