I did a little research on this one after watching Grantland’s March Madness coverage. Bill Simmons and Jalen Rose came to the conclusion yesterday that Rod Strickland should become the head coach of the DePaul Blue Demons.
I am kind of in love with this idea.
After about 15 seconds of google research, it was discovered that Scoop Jackson actually wrote that Strickland would be the right fit back in 2010.
Jackson wrote: “If DePaul is seriously serious about being the program that once again defines the city’s hoops scene — if it is serious about bringing the program back to what it once was, and once again being the pride of the Chi — then he’s the only person it should be seriously considering.”
Strickland is an assistant coach with the Kentucky Wildcats and has helped groom their guards into lottery picks in the last few years. As alumni of DePaul as well, Strickland has deep ties in the city of Chicago and would greatly their recruiting in Illinois and especially the city.
As an alum of DePaul myself, no one would be happier than me to see them return to their success of old; here’s hoping that this eventually happens. Think if Strickland were able to land a recruit like Jahlil Okafor or Jabari Parker? A recruiting success like that would instantly put DePaul back on the basketball map.
