Tubby Smith Leaving Minnesota Gophers Will Hurt Their Recruitment of Tyus Jones

The Minnesota Gophers might not be making the right call here. What exactly did Tubby Smith do to deserve losing his job? Well, I have no idea and this could really hurt their program. Smith got the Gophers back into the tournament and relevant again.

Remember how Jabari Parker had the DePaul Blue Demons on his list until they switched coaches and all the ground work that staff did went out the window? That is the type of situation we could be looking at here. The Blue Demons to say the least are not a basketball program that your really would want to emulate.

Tyus Jones, the top ranked point guard in the 2014 basketball recruiting class, currently still has the Gophers on his list and he is a Minnesota resident. There would be no guarantee that he would of signed with the school, but just having a SHOT at a player like Jones could completely transform a basketball program. Some scouts have compared Jones’ basketball IQ to Chris Paul’s. That is high praise and it is just a shame that IQ won’t be used to get the Minnesota Gophers to the Final Four. Tubby Smith will land on his feet though; this just feels like a huge mistake by a program that seemed to be gaining a bit of momentum.
