Chris Collins Close To Being Inked as Head Coach of Northwestern Wildcats
Duke assistant coach Chris Collins is apparently about to become the head coach of the Northwestern Wildcats. If DePaul basketball doesn’t wake up now, then I don’t know when they will. A source close to the situtation told Andy Katz of ESPN that the ‘Cats and Collins are close to a deal.
Duke is a No. 2 seed in the Midwest region and faces third-seeded Michigan State on Friday.
Collins is the son of Philadelphia 76ers coach Doug Collins and has strong ties to the Chicago area. He lives in Northbrook, Illinois where he was a McDonald’s All American at Glenbrook High School. He has recruited the Chicago area for Duke for many years and he will likely take away many potential Blue Demons. DePaul seriously needs to get this Rod Strickland idea rolling and swiftly. Kudos to the Grantland staff for coming up with this idea by the way, and here’s hoping that it actually goes into motion.
Collins has been an assistant for Mike Krzyzewski since 2000 and has spoken publicly in he past about wanting to be a head coach. With Illinois Head coach John Groce recruiting the Chicago area as well, DePaul will be hard pressed to find a recruit willing to attend their school Can you imagine Jahlilk Okafor announcing his intentions to be a Blue Demon next year? No, neither can I.
