DePaul University Blue Demons Need To Step It Up Quickly
John Groce has been recruiting the Chicago area very well as Illinois’ head coach; he’ll even have a pair of Simeon Academy players on the floor for him next year.
Basically, DePaul University needs to step up the urgency of their basketball program. They stupidly turned down an opportunity to have the United Center be their home and Oliver Purnell has not had a large impact so far. They continuously let high caliber basketball talent in the city of Chicago go elsewhere for college. Why do they do so? Because they are not impressed by the Blue Demons. They don’t like the fact that DePaul doesn’t even play in the city, but in the burbs. Don’t you think recruits would be more inclined to go to DePaul if they got to play at the United Center? Absolutely they would.
Think it is time that the Blue Demons listened to Bill Simmons and Jalen Rose over at Grantland who suggested during the first round of March Madness that Rod Strickland would be a great candidate for the DePaul coaching position. I happen to agree and not just because he is an alumnus of the school, but because he would bring instant credibility back to our Chicago recruiting.
