Florida Gulf Coast’s Sherwood Brown Never Been Afraid of Anyone Since High School

Richard Rowe-USA TODAY Sports

Florida Gulf Coast just had a truly amazing run as the number 15 seed in the tournament that came to an end last night against Florida. Senior guard Sherwood Brown though is the leader and go to player for the Eagles.

FGCU won the Atlantic Sun Conference championship and that was the beginnig of their NCAA tournament run, because they would not have been in March Madness without that tournament victory.

In his senior year at Olympia (Orlando, Fla.), he averaged 11.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, and he did an interview which you can check out on youtube. He was asked what his high school experience was like and his response was vert interesting.

“Life is great at Olympia. Playing on the basketball team, you get a lot of favoritism. That’s real nice, it never hurts.”

The favoritism probably will not stop for Brown now that he led his team all the way to the Sweet Sixteen. He may experience even more of it next year if the Eagles can make another run.

“If we had to suit up against the Heat, we would suit up against the Heat,” Brown said. “That’s an NBA team right there, so I don’t want to say something I shouldn’t say. But we would try our hardest.”

That is some pretty brash confidence and it is a shame that was not quite enough to upend the Florida Gators.
