Jabari Parker recently told Slam magazine that his favorite player was Oscar Robertson; it makes a lot of sense. Parker has an old school, highly skilled game.
“The Big O” Parker told Slam. “He’s kind of the foundation for me because he kind of evolved the game for what a small forward is—playing everywhere on the floor. The old school guys, I have so much passion for them because they did it so smooth. They had so much more fundamentals than our bigs. We are a little bit stronger and faster, but the skill back then was better.”
For those who say Parker isn’t athletic, just check him out in the Jordan Classic. Parker has no wasted movement in his game and is beautiful to watch. Wiggins was also at the Slam shoot and they got to talk for a while.
Parker got his passion for the game from his father, and he has taken his talents to a high level. I got to interview Parker last summer at the Gatorade Athlete of the Year awards and now he is off to Tobacco Road. It should be an exciting year of college basketball next year with so much talent coming out of this special class. Watching Andrew Wiggins and Parker go head to head in college will be fun as well; we just don’t know what uniform it will be in yet.
