On Tuesday, Seton senior center Alex Foster decommitted from Minnesota; this comes shortly after they had sacked head coach Tubby Smith. Didn’t understand that by the way; Smith coached the Gophers into the tournament. This is not a great sign for the Gophers program as they struggle to have success in recruiting or on the court.
“(Alex) only took one official visit, so he has four that he can use,” Seton coach Brandon Thomas texted to the Chicago Tribune. “He has no favorites at this point and is wide open. He will take his time with this process and select a school, coaching staff and style of play that best fits his needs as a student-athlete.”
The Gophers recently hired Rick Pitino’s son Richard Pitino.
De La Salle shooting guard Alvin Ellis also recently decommitted from the Gophers and Pitino really needs to right the ship, because this is not a great start to his tenure. His family has had quite a good year though; congratulations to the Pitino family and best of luck to Richard in his first year in Minnesota.
Foster averaged 10.7 points and 6.7 rebounds this season and it remains unclear which schools he will visit in the coming months, but Minnesota’s loss is everyone else’s gain. We’ll just have to wait and see where Foster ends up.
