Well, wouldn’t you know it? The Oklahoma State Cowboys just might be in the mix for a national championship next year.
Marcus Smart recently announced his return along with with teammates Markel Brown and LeBryan Nash at a student union press conference. Smart was by far the most surprising decision of the three.
Those three were e Oklahoma State’s top three scorers last year and the Cowboys will now return their top seven scorers. Head Coach Travis Ford realizes how lucky he was to keep all three young men.
“This is an exciting time for Cowboy Basketball,” said coach Ford. “All three of these guys will have an opportunity to compete at the next level. They realize and understand that the individual awards they received come from great team chemistry, playing well together as a team and winning basketball games. Staying in school also provides them with an opportunity to continue their education, which is very important to them and their families.”
Smart would have been a high lottery pick in the draft this year and next year’s draft is loaded. He even said at the press conference that he realizes how much money he is losing on this decision. It just doesn’t matter.
He is happy with his decision and it will definitely be an exciting time to watch Cowboys’ basketball.
