Odd Coincidence That Andrew Wiggins Has Same Name of "Ender's Game" Protagonist

Have to admit it is a little bit weird to admit this in a public forum, but after seeing a couple tweets about it I thought I’d comment as well. I am a huge fan of the book Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. It was a formational book in my childhood and the amount of times that I have read it is truly embarrassing and I don’t even want to try to do the math, because it will depress me and probably my readers too. Let’s just say that it was many, MANY times.

In the book, the protagonist’s full name is Andrew Wiggins, but he goes by Ender, so it is a bit interesting that this year’s Gatorade National High School Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year is named Andrew Wiggins as well. It is just a coincidence, but an interesting one to be sure.

The book is about a training station in space that they train young military children to be commanders one day; they are fighting against an Alien group who has invaded earth twice called the Buggers. I won’t ruin the ending for you, but you can probably guess who wins the war.

I plan to ask Wiggins if he has read the book this summer and if he hasn’t I’ll definitely recommend it to him.

It’s a strange time for Ender’s Game fans, because the movie is coming out next year and the cast is pretty decent. But a mediocre movie always has the potential to ruin a great book, so we are all crossing our fingers.
