Gonzaga Forward Kelly Olynyk Will Enter the NBA Draft

Gonzaga forward Kelly Olynyk announced on Friday that he will not have a senior season and he will enter the pro draft.

“In the end, it’s something you’ve dreamed about since you were a little kid,” Olynyk told ESPN Friday, which is also his 22nd birthday.

Olynyk averaged 17.8 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 63 percent from the field his junior season. He also led Gonzaga to a 32-3 season, but they were eliminated early on in March Madness.

“We are very proud of what Kelly was able to accomplish at Gonzaga both on the court and in the classroom,” coach Mark Few said in a news release. “We wish him all the best in his next challenge.”

Coach Few will have to look to the bench and recruiting to replace Olynyk, but he can never be replaced.

“Nine months ago this wasn’t what I envisioned for today,” Olynyk said. “It came quicker than I expected and I’ve got to capitalize.”

Olynyk grew up in Toronto and has said before that he would love to play for the Toronto Raptors.

“It’s all speculation,” he said.

Whenever someone says something is just speculation, doesn’t that just make you think it is not speculation more? I don’t know, maybe that is just me. We will have to wait and see where he gets drafted, but if it is by the Raptors then definitely expect some revisionist history by me.
