Hey I remember that guy! Jon Scheyer used to be a player for the Duke Blue Devils and it appears he will be making a return to Tobacco Road as an assistant coach.
Coach Mike Krzyzewski calls Scheyer “one of the greatest young men to ever wear the Duke uniform”; that is high praise from a Hall of Fame coach. Scheyer was hired after a position opened up. Chris Collins left Tobacco Road to go be a head coach in the Big Ten, so Scheyer was the beneficiary. He has never coached before, but Coach K would not bring someone on board who wasn’t intelligent and hardworking.
Coach K & @duke_mbb excited to announce the addition of @jonscheyer to the Duke coaching staff. Scheyer will fill special assistant role.

Scheyer played in the NBADL and apparently overseas for a time, but never made it to the big show. We will just have to see if coaching is a career that he blossoms into, or if he finds other pursuits down the line. It is always interesting to see what former players get up to and what fields they are interested in exploring. Best of luck to Scheyer and who knows? Maybe one day we will look up and see Scheyer as the head coach for a team. You never know.
