D’Angelo Russell will be joining the Ohio State Buckeyes.
I saw Russell play at NHSH in Bethesda, Maryland and he hit a couple of free throws in the semifinals, which helped Montverde on their road to a national championship. Now Russell can focus on getting another championship with the Buckeyes, which apparently was the best fit for Russell’s talents.
“I have been going through the recruiting process for a long time but never cut my list down. I know Ohio State is where I want to be, so I made my decision,” Russell told ESPN. “I evaluated their situation and felt it was best for me.”
The Buckeyes are getting a young quality guard here who can play the point or shooting guard depending on how recruiting continues to go for the Buckeyes. Russell is capable of running the point if need be, but if the Buckeyes can somehow get Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor to commit, then I’m sure Russell will have not problem with playing shooting guard.
“I decided to go to Ohio State because of the environment of the program, the coaching staff and the players I will be playing with such as Keita Bates-Diop,” Russell said to ESPN. I feel I can help the coaches landing a big man. I understand them and know how to play with them,” he said. “I had success with Dakari Johnson.”
We’ll just have to see what happens here.
