Damien Mama: 2014 Offensive Lineman

USC UCLA

Jayne Kamin-Oncea – USA TODAY Sports

Usually, when a player transitions from high school to college football, there is some sort of diet plan they must follow to add weight and strength, but Damien Mama already has the weight and will likely just look to add some strength without weight gain.

Mama stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs somewhere around 340 to 360 pounds. He is a tank on the field and routinely pancakes defensive ends. He plays tackle for his high school, St. John Bosco High School, but will probably switch to the guard position to better fit his skill set.

Bosco is currently ranked no. 5 in the Maxpreps preseason national rankings and is on the best team in California. They were ranked no. 1 in California last season before forfeiting their first four wins of the season after turning themselves in on an academic eligibility violation. They would then go on and beat one of the top teams in Utah, Jordan High School, and went 5-0 in league play before heading to the playoffs. They would then lose in the California Pac-5 State Semifinals. The Bosco Braves definitely hope to make a run at a state championship this year as well.

Mama has said that he wants to wait for the end of the college football season before making a decision, so it seems that he is interested in going to a winning team, and one moving in the right direction. Some of the favorites include USC, UCLA, Cal, Alabama and Ole Miss. And it’s also acknowledged on Twitter by ESPN 300 running back Joe Mixon that himself, Mama and a slew of other recruits are planning on attending the same college. It may not happen, but the potential is there.

It will be interesting to see what happens over the next football season, to see if this all ends up coming to life.
