Terry Beckner Jr. Is Top Illinois Prospect In Class of 2015
Terry Beckner Jr. is a 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive end from East St. Louis, Illinois. He is currently ESPN’s top-rated recruit in the state of Illinois for the 2015 graduating class. With his size and speed, he will be hard-pressed to find anyone in the state to match his physical gifts, including those in the class of 2014.
Not only is he the top player in the state, he’s also ESPN’s ninth-highest rated recruit in the nation.
Beckner plays for the East St. Louis Flyers, a team with a proud tradition of playing good football over the last decade. The Flyers are coming off of an 8-3 season that ended with a second round exit in the IHSA Class 7A playoffs. They have high hopes, however, with a defense that includes Kansas-bound senior linebacker Kyron Watson among plenty of others with FBS and FCS scholarship offers. They also have junior running back Natereace Strong, who is the workhorse on offense.
Beckner is listed as the defensive end on the strong side, meaning he is more adept at run support. He compiled 77 tackles last season with just five sacks. He has the potential to add more moves to his pass-rushing skill set to be able to pile up more sacks and eventually draw even more offers.
His top three schools right now are Kansas, Missouri and Ohio State. All of these schools are nice, but the real test will be to see if he can improve his skills and draw offers from the elite SEC schools. Wherever he ends up attending, it will be exciting to watch him as he progresses.
