Andrew Wiggins recently attended Canada’s win over Jamaica and I came across the blog post below detailing Wiggins going to the the concession stand and not having a totally distracting crowd following him. That will not last long for Wiggins who will soon be recognizable as one of the top basketball players in the world. Wiggins was named this year’s Gatorade high school boys athlete of the year and I’ve predicted here in the past that he will win Big 12 player of the year next season. That would be quite an accomplishment, but an even greater one would be winning a national championship. Mario Chalmers thinks Wiggins is capable of that, but we will just have to see what the young forward is capable of next season.

Wiggins has stated in the past that he wants to win Canada a gold medal one day, so enthusiasts need not worry about Wiggins lack of commitment. He has shown quite a bit of Canadian pride, and it would not surprise me at all to see him suiting up for Canada in the Olympics one day. I had the good fortune to speak with Wiggins this summer and he said that the “time is now” to bring Canada to the national basketball attention. Wiggins is as good a man to lead the charge as any and I will be rooting for him if he is one day playing for a medal.
