Well, well, well Mr. Larry Brown. He has done it again. Prime Prep point guard Emmanuel Mudiay last night chose to join Southern Methodist and shocked the basketball world. Brown is definitely a huge part of this, and if he was not the head coach you can bet that this would not have happened. It will be fascinating to watch Mudiay develop under the Hall of Fame coach, and this news is still sinking in a bit for me, because honestly thought John Calipari had the inside track. It did tip me off a little bit that Mudiay’s brother said that Calipari was not officially in the lead, but still did not think Mudiay was seriously thinking about SMU.

Calipari might have to start scrambling now. If he misses out on Tyus Jones as well, then the point guard cupboard will be quite bare after this season but we will just have to see how it plays out. In the meantime, Mudiay will have the benefit next season of not thinking about his recruiting at all. It is amazing that Mudiay will get to help with the rebuild of the Mustangs program and this is just the shot in the arm that program need. I’m sure coach Brown slept very well last night, and now he just has to wait a year to reap the fruits of his labor.
