Well, apparently the apple does not fall far from the tree; Jahlil Okafor’s dad appears to be a stand up guy who has raised a stand up son. Chuck Okafor had to raise Jahlil alone after they both lost Jahlil’s mother at an untimely age. Apparently Whitney Young high school has been the perfect medicine in Chuck’s opinion, and Jahlil’s basketball career has certainly gone pretty well with Whitney Young so far.
“With Whitney Young, with coach Slaughter and the atmosphere they have created for Jahlil there, it’s been great in helping him grow into the man he is today,” Chuck said to the Chicago Sun Times. “It’s been the perfect environment for him.”
Okafor is going to be starting his official visits in two days, so you can be that we will be giving more updates on his recruiting status. He is a package recruiting deal with top ranked point guard Tyus Jones; they became friends while both on Team USA and then decided from there that they wanted to go to college together. They will both be battling it out for the national player of the year awards on the court, but off the court you know that they are still close friends.
Okafor will also be in the hunt for a state championship this season with a pretty clear path in front of him. Well apparently Whitney Young has been pretty good to Okafor so far, so maybe he can do some good back and bring home state.
