Head coach Larry Brown is playing hard ball, and I’ve got to admit… I’m kind of impressed. I’m impressed almost to Vince Vaughn proportions, but let’s not quite go there yet. When Brown landed the commitment of point guard Emmanuel Mudiay during the Elite 24 game, it was a landmark moment for the Southern Methodist University’s basketball future. Mudiay is one of the top five players in the class according to ESPN, and there will be many recruits who follow his footsteps to Texas. Their basketball program has now arrived, regardless of whatever success Mudiay has as a Mustang. I believe this young man is going to be a special point guard, and though he will not lead the Mustangs to a national title he will still do special things for them. He could absolutely lead them to a conference title as a freshman, and he could even be the type of player who stays more than one year.

Brown is one of the best coaches of all time, and Mudiay always said throughout his recruitment that coaching was the most important aspect. He wants to have his game polished by someone who knows what it is to see basketball played at its highest level. It will be fascinting to watch his maturation under coach Brown and here is hoping that Brown can help turn Mudiay into one of the best point guards of all time.
