Huntington Prep head coach Rob Fulford recently congratulated his former player Andrew Wiggins for “getting some GQ Love”, which is quite true and the photos turned out pretty decently. Fulford had the good fortune to coach Wiggins in West Virginia for the last two years, and the pedigree of Wiggins will probably serve Fulford quite well going forward into the coach’s career. Wiggins was Gatorade player of the year in West Virginia both years he lived there, and the second year netted him athlete of the year as well. Was lucky enough to talk to Wiggins at the Gatorade awards and it struck me how composed he was throughout the entire process.

Fulford will unfortunately not have Wiggins’ services next season, but I’m sure the coach enjoyed the time he got to spend with Wiggins and root for the young man going forward.

Wiggins is going into a year full of expectations, but it is going to be beautiful to watch it all play out on a national stage. Fulford will be a lifelong fan of Wiggins and it will be interesting to see if the forward ever comes back to visit Huntington every now and then. At the very least, hopefully he can get his old coach a couple tickets to one of his Jayhawk games. Something tells me we are only glimpsing the beginning of what is sure to be a long and fruitful career.
