The Minnesota Gophers still remain on top ranked point guard Tyus Jones recruiting list, but it is a formality at this point. He did not want to hear the home town haters rain down on him on twitter until after the early November decision, and it is hard to blame him for that. The inevitable will come eventually though, so just trying to soften the landing for all you Gopher fans out there.
Jones is a package recruiting deal with top ranked center Jahlil Okafor, and needless to say the Gophers did not make the Whitney Young center’s list.
It is a shame that most of the pieces you guys would like to read you have to pay for, but at least at Rant Sports you don’t have to worry about it. Just saying.

There could be a bright side though for Gopher Nation. Jones is doing the Gophers a pretty big favor by even having the Gophers on his list, and it could pay off down the line. It gives them more national visibility and could help them with recruiting down the line. Keeping the Gophers on the list gives Richard Pitino much needed credibility in his first season as Gophers coach, and though it is not likely to be a fantastic year record-wise, Pitino has the opportunity to start and build something for the future.
