So small forward Andrew Wiggins is currently an amateur if you can somehow wrap your mind around that one, despite the millions the young Canadian will make for his university and the NCAA next year. It could even be in the billions by the end of the year if things go right.
That is such a joke, but a totally unfunny one. Unfortunately the brunt of the joke lands on Wiggins who cannot be compensated for his elite skills as of yet.
The young man has a shoe deal from Adidas rumored to be worth around $180 million dollars, which he cannot sign until he declares for the draft. Pretty nice quasi-graduation present right? Thanks to Dime Mag for alerting me to this contract with the tweet below.

This kid is on the right path, so we do not need to worry about him. He was last summer’s Gatorade high school athlete of the year, and his shoe contract will not be the last huge contract he signs in the immediate future.
The amateur rules for college football and basketball at this point are just embarrassing, and here is hoping that some people with a little bit of intelligence and common sense are trying to rectify the situation.
Until then we will all look forward to watching the amateur Wiggins show his 180 million dollar skills even though at the current moment you could not go and buy the young man a hamburger.
