It has been a joy to cover Wiggins for the past year, and it was my good fortune to speak with him during a phone interview once last Spring as well as over the summer when he was named the Gatorade High School Athlete of the Year.
Wiggins’ freshman year will obviously be followed closely because he is most likely going to be the top pick in next summer’s draft. There are some more polished players than Wiggins at the moment, but his athleticism projects him to be a monster of a player. I certainly would not want to try to stop him when he is running downhill on the fastbreak.
His new head coach Bill Self recently said “there should be hype” about Wiggins, but at Big 12 media day the coach also cautioned expecting insane Kevin Durant-like numbers at the college level. You will have to go to our college basketball section to get coverage on Wiggins once the season officially starts but I will be sure to chime in on Wiggins from time to time. Also, keep an eye out for my coverage of the Champion’s Classic, which is going to be fantastic double header of basketball with the headliner being the matchup between Wiggins and Jabari Parker. It should be a freaking incredible game, and I will do my best to cover it with awesome material.
