Kansas Jayhawks Coach Bill Self Benches Andrew Wiggins in First Half Because Forward “Didn’t Run”

Andrew Wiggins High School Basketball: McDonald's All American Games

Hmmm.

This Andrew Wiggins doesn’t go full tilt at every moment theory is starting to bug me more and more. ESPN’s Jeff Goodman does not think Wiggins will be the first pick in next summer’s draft, and the words from the young man’s head coach concern me as well. Bill Self benched Wiggins in the first half for not running full steam. Thanks to SportsCenter for the tweet below.

“If you watch the game, early on he didn’t seem as engaged as he should be and when he came back in he had an opportunity to dunk and he didn’t run” Self said. “He just didn’t run so I subbed him back out. He played about 30 seconds. He sat out there quite a while. I love the kid, but he’s got to take everyone’s best shot every night and I didn’t think he really brought it until he got back in the game after that and he was much more aggressive.”

It has also been said about Wiggins though that he gets up for the big games. I will be lucky enough to find out whether that is true first hand because will be at the United Center to Wiggins go head to head with Jabari Parker. We will just have to see if Wiggins can run this time.
