Jahlil Okafor “Felt Most Comfortable” with Coach K and Duke Blue Devils
Top ranked center Jahlil Okafor and point guard Tyus Jones both committed to the Duke Blue Devils last week, and it was definitely a watershed moment for them. You can bet that the coaching staff was thrilled to hear the news, and it came as a happy moment for the many fans of the Blue Devils out there as well.
Okafor and Jones met in third grade, and however unlikely this was to happen it ending up going down.
“We became good friends, and we just kind of mentioned it one day, not seriously,” Jones said to the Star Tribune. “The more we both thought about it, the better the idea sounded.”
The biggest recent Okafor committed was because of the coaching staff and comfort level.
“It was Coach K in all honesty. He is the most winningest coach in basketball history and the most important thing to me is winning,” Okafor said last Friday. “I think I felt most comfortable with him helping me win a National Championship with Tyus [Jones] and on a personal note I would like to help him get his 1000th victory. So I think that was the tipping point of the scale for me.”
