Geico ESPN High School Basketball Showcase Opening Up World to High School Hoops

Jahlil Okafor

Guy Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

The 2013-14 GEICO ESPN High School Basketball Showcase will feature 12 games across ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU beginning Thursday, Dec. 5 so it is pretty cool that we will all get to benefit from that.

The types of players you will get to see as a result range from Jahlil Okafor, Myles Turner, Cliff Alexander, and Tyus Jones among others.

My readers are probably familiar with a few of those names, and if you did not know them before then you might get a chance to watch them this winter. It is pretty cool that basketball is getting opened up the world as the result of World Wide media, and you will not hear any complaints from me or my DVR. The matchup between Jones and Okafor will air on ESPN2 and you can bet that I will watch that one with incredibly great interest. The two are going to college together, so you can bet that we will all be examining how they engage on the court and if things get competitive it will be interesting to see if an alpha dog emerges in that matchup. Going to be a night of basketball to remember, so be sure to mark your calendars and clear out the cupboards for that one.

Thanks for reading folks. That is all for Rant Sports Prep today, and be sure to check in for my pro basketball previews tomorrow morning.

Watch HS Hoops Coach Headbutt Referee

There is absolutely no excuse for this to happen ever. During an argument about a call, Neshaminy (Pa.) high school basketball coach Jerry Devine decided it would be a good idea to headbutt the referee to prove his point. Devine was then ejected from the gym and could now face criminal charges for his actions as well as losing his teaching and coaching job.
