Whitney Young (IL) and Center Jahlil Okafor Lose at the Buzzer to St. John Bosco (CA)

Jahlil Okafor

Guy Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

Jahlil Okafor may have come out on the wrong end in this one, but his performance was impressive and he clearly looks like the best player in the country. Whitney Young (IL) lost on a buzzer beater by St. John Bosco (CA), and much thanks to the tweet below for the alert.

Apparently this has happened against Bosco before to Okafor and Whitney Young, although not totally sure about that. Kudos to Daniel Hamilton for having the courage to take such a big shot and then to make it on top of that as well.

Okafor is my favorite to take home most of the national player of the year awards, but of course that remains a flexible opinion barring any injury or other major change. The Duke Blue Devils certainly have a special player coming to town next season, but they also have a pretty special freshman this season as well. It remains to be seen whether forward Jabari Parker and Okafor will play together again as they once did on AAU, but that is something we should know about by next summer. It is not likely to happen, but it also still dose not fall outside the realm of the possible at this moment. Until then the Okafor state title watch will be on full alert here at Rant Sports Prep with updates coming daily just for your reading pleasure.

Appreciate the read, and one more Prep piece coming tonight and then be sure to keep an eye out for my previews in the morning.
