Tyus Jones High School Basketball: Nike Global Challenge

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Apple Valley (MN) point guard Tyus Jones had an impressive night of basketball that included a four point play as well as some smooth point guard play. He led the game in scoring, but it was not quite enough to overcome his future teammate Jahlil Okafor. The Whitney Young center dominated on both ends dropping a double-double with a few blocks thrown in there as well.

Jones tweeted his thanks after the game to all his fans, and expect the point guard to only grow from this experience.

Jones and Okafor will be teammates on the Duke Blue Devils next season, and it was not hard to see last night that they will be fantastic together. Jones though was pleased that his hometown got to experience all the hubbub that surrounds a high school game when it is aired on ESPN2.

“I was excited for Apple Valley tonight,” Jones said. “Apple Valley has earned that. High school ball is way different than AAU ball. It’s your town, your people. So it was special.”

It was an amazing night of basketball and as far as regular season high school games go, it was pretty much as big as it gets.

That is all for Rant Sports Prep today, but as always let me leave you with some fortune cookie wisdom and thank you, the reader, as always for doing what you do.

Watch HS Hoops Coach Headbutt Referee

There is absolutely no excuse for this to happen ever. During an argument about a call, Neshaminy (Pa.) high school basketball coach Jerry Devine decided it would be a good idea to headbutt the referee to prove his point. Devine was then ejected from the gym and could now face criminal charges for his actions as well as losing his teaching and coaching job.
