Whitney Young (IL) center Jahlil Okafor has not been that pleased with his own play so far this year, which shows you exactly the type of player he is. He’s been probably the most impressive player at the high school level so far this season with quick nods to Stanley Johnson, Tyus Jones, and Emmanuel Mudiay as well. It is Okafor’s humility and ambition are two of the traits that make him great, and much thanks to Lauren below for her opinion on the Chicago Magazine piece. She pretty much sums up the way we feel about Okafor here at Rant Sports Prep.

That piece is tough to get through without welling up even on the second day, and it is really quite excellent craftsmanship for any aspiring writers out there. Pay attention to the structure of the piece and when each piece of information is revealed. Okafor has shown in the these past few years how driven he is, and he will likely get a pretty good shot at not only a state title this year but possibly a national title next season. Nothing in life is guaranteed as Okafor well knows, but that is a young man who has earned a bit of good karma to come his way and will greatly enjoy watching him reap some rewards after years of effort and struggle.
Two more Prep pieces coming your way today and if still starving for the good stuff then be sure to check out my pro basketball previews.
