Duke Blue Devils Commit Tyus Jones’ On Ball Defense is Work in Progress
Apple Valley (MN) point guard Tyus Jones is already a well developed player on the offensive side of the ball, but his on ball defense is not quite at the same level. He would probably admit as much himself, but his penetration into passing lanes cannot be underestimated. His six steals against Kennedy were particularly impressive to me, but dropping 30 points and eight assists is not too shabby either.
“Tyus works hard on his game,” analyst Jack Plank said recently. “And if he continues to work hard he will find the way.”
Much thanks to D1Circuit for always keeping us updated on Jones’ stat lines on twitter, which you can check out below if you are feeling particularly adventurous and are a box score nerd like me then you should feel like the Indiana Jones of linkologists.

Have had the pleasure of watching Jones’ performance in the Whitney Young (IL) game a few times now thanks to the Merlin Magic of DVR, and love the passing lanes that Jones gets into; however at times he needs to be more aggressive on the ball. Talking more never hurts on defense either, but the young floor general already does that on a pretty impressive level. Met a guy at the gym today who was impressed with the amount of work that these young players puts in, and it would shock a lot of people probably.
Three more Prep pieces coming your way today, and congratulations to Peyton Manning for breaking the single season passing touchdown recored… again. If you missed the video of all 51 touchdowns strung together, then be sure to check out my twitter feed.
