Stanley Johnson appears to be in strong consideration for the Gatorade Player of the Year award, which noticed because of the USA TODAY Sports piece below.

Johnson’s numbers in the early season have been staggering, and if he can get a fourth state title then it would be hard to deny him at least as a possible contender. Center Jahlil Okafor and point guard Tyus Jones come to mind as competition, but they are all deserving so quite happy it is not me that has to decide who is worthy. That would definitely be a tough job, and happy that can offer my opinion without any real repercussions.
Will definitely keep an eye on Johnson’s season, and maybe even will get to speak with him this spring or possibly over the summer. Will keep y’all posted on that, but either way will continue to throw basketball content your way.
Always enjoy the USA TODAY content, and they are right to point out Johnson’s brilliance. It appears his game has blossomed after the graduation of highflyer Aaron Gordon. Even though those two will attend the same college, they will probably not do so at the same time; that is just the way the business of basketball works these days.
Got one more Prep piece coming at you today, and then just be sure to check out our previews tomorrow.
