Duke Blue Devils Commit Jahlil Okafor Gets Whitney Young to State Playoffs for First Time in Four Years

Jahlil Okafor

Guy Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

It has been a little while since the Whitney Young basketball team has booked a trip to the state playoffs, but they do not need to wait any more thanks to the efforts of their senior center Jahlil Okafor. Having a secondary player like Paul White probably does not hurt either.

Their way has been blocked by Jabari Parker for the last four years, and it is probably a relief that they no longer have to deal with him. Parker is now the NCAA tournament’s problem, and I have the Duke Blue Devils winning their region in my personal bracket.

But adding Okafor and Tyus Jones to the mix next season will only make Coach K’s squad even more dangerous than they are this year, and it would come as a great shock if they are not the preseason number one ranked team. By the way, for any college basketball junkies out there, I highly recommend Grantland’s live stream of the tournament, because Jalen Rose is just an entertaining fellow to keep track of. Last year’s was even better, but this year’s edition has been quite good so far.

We will have to see if Young can bring home state; it has been my prediction here that they would win it for some time, and there is no sense in changing course now. That is all for Rant Sports Prep, but will leave you with a bit of fortune cookie wisdom per my usual routine. What can I say? I’m a creature of habit.

Watch HS Hoops Coach Headbutt Referee

There is absolutely no excuse for this to happen ever. During an argument about a call, Neshaminy (Pa.) high school basketball coach Jerry Devine decided it would be a good idea to headbutt the referee to prove his point. Devine was then ejected from the gym and could now face criminal charges for his actions as well as losing his teaching and coaching job.
