The South Carolina Gamecocks went just to the north to land the commitment of North Carolina native and 2015 3-star wide receiver Michael Bowman on Thursday.

The 6-foot, 190 pound receiver committed to the Gamecocks over East Carolina, Georgia Tech and North Carolina State. Bowman is rated as the 45th best wide receiver in the nation and 15th best player in the state of North Carolina for the class of 2015.

Bowman has had his eyes set on South Carolina for much of the past year, as he camped in Columbia at one of the football team’s events in late July, and he received an offer from the Gamecocks on Aug. 15. From that point, the slot receiver unofficially visited South Carolina twice in November and decided it was time to make the decision and commit.

Bowman projects to play slot receiver for the Gamecocks once arriving in Columbia, and he has good quickness and ability to make plays after the catch and stretch defenders down the field.

With the addition of the 3-star wide receiver, the Gamecocks now have four commitments in the class of 2015, which features one 5-star, one 4-star and two 3-star prospects. The Gamecocks’ class ranks 19th in the nation. but only No. 9 overall in the SEC.

The top recruit for head coach Steve Spurrier is 5-star defensive end Shameik Blackshear, who is the No. 1 weak-side defensive end in the nation. The class also features 4-star outside linebacker Sherrod Pittman and 3-star wide receiver Dexter Neal.
