Jahlil Okafor is rarely caught off guard by anything on the court, so it should come as no surprise that he is just as aware off the court as well.
The Whitney Young (IL) center has just capped off his high school career with what has probably been one of the best weeks of his life. He brought home a state title on Saturday, and then on Tuesday won the Morgan Wootten player of the year award.
You can check out video of Okafor receiving the award below, and I will definitely enjoy seeing how the Chicago crowd greets Okafor next Wednesday at the United Center.

If you were wondering whose iPad that is filming the announcement, then you might be interested to know that it is Okafor’s dad. He was a very pleasant man to speak to, and I wish both of them a lot of success in the next few years. The Duke Blue Devils will be the beneficiaries of Okafor’s talents next season, and the only thing that remains to be seen is if Jabari Parker decides to come along for the ride. My money is on Parker going back to school, but I have, admittedly, been wrong once or twice before.
You can bet that that Blue Devils will be a force to be reckoned with next season either way, and their hype should be of similar magnitude as to what John Calipari’s freshman had to endure this season. Thanks as always for reading and keep an eye out for one more Prep piece later tonight.
