All due respect to Cliff Alexander and the season that he had for Curie (IL), but the Mr. Basketball award pretty much belonged to Jahlil Okafor after the center won the state title last weekend.
“It’s been a special week for me,” Okafor said to the Chicago Tribune after the most recent accolade. “One of the best weeks of my short life, 18 years. “I never tried to make it personal. Winning state was the biggest award of this whole week. Being we fell short so many times, to have that under my belt for me and my teammates is great.”
Okafor not only won state and Mr. B-ball in the state of Illinois, but he was also named the Morgan Wootten player of the year last Tuesday. He was given the award at the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago, and most of the local media had a presence at the announcement. If you are not familiar with Okafor’s past, then this will give you a sense of what drives him to succeed on a daily basis.

I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the Whitney Young (IL) center at the McDonald’s All American game, and keep an eye out for plenty more coverage of that here at Rant Sports Prep.
