SMU Mustangs Future PG Emmanuel Mudiay Almost Joined the Kentucky Wildcats

Emmanuel Mudiay apparently almost joined the Kentucky Wildcats, but the point guard was convinced by his older brother to wait until meeting SMU Mustangs head coach Larry Brown before making a decision.

“Cal talks well,” Mudiay said to the Courier-Journal. “When he came and did the home visit, I was there. I was Kentucky-bound, but then my mom and my brother, it got quiet for like 15 seconds with everybody waiting for me to say that’s where you’re going. But I had to think about it for like 15 seconds. I said, ‘I’ll make my decision after he leaves. He left, and my other brother called me on the phone and was like, ‘How was your visit (with Calipari)?’ I was like, ‘It was good. I’m about to commit. I’m about to commit.’ He said, ‘Just wait. Just wait.’ Then I met with Larry Brown, and he talked way better than Cal did.”

That part at the end may come as a surprise to many Kentucky Wildcat fans, because they are not accustomed to John Calipari getting out recruited for a blue chip prospect and especially not to a mid-major school. You can check out the full fascinating piece below, but you can count me among those who are glad Mudiay decided to join the Mustangs.

Something tells me that the Wildcats are going to be just fine, and we will just have to wait and see if they can cut down the nets tomorrow. That might have Mudiay reconsidering his decision, but we all have to commit ourselves to a purpose at some point in our lives.
