Roy Williams Needs to Up His Recruiting Game to Keep Up with Duke Blue Devils
The Duke Blue Devils have been dominating big time recruiting in the ACC for the last few years, and the North Carolina Tar Heels have fallen a step behind as a result. The title from ’09 seems a lot farther away than it used to, and Roy Williams will have to up his game if he wants to get the Heels back in the mix.
For instance, the latest blog from upcoming junior recruit Harry Giles III was quite interesting when it came to the Tar Heels recruiting hopes, and it seems he might even form a package deal with Jayson Tatum.
“I know everybody talks about the package deals and things like that and I don’t have anything official right now,” Giles wrote on his USA TODAY blog. “But I’ll let y’all know that me and my man Jayson Tatum have been talking a little bit. We’re both up for it, but it’s not official or anything yet. We’ve got similar games, in a way, but I think we’ve got different strengths that will make us both better.”
The thing that stood out to me the most about Giles’ blog entry was the focus he put on the Blue Devils, which is not great news for Williams and the Heels.
Nabbing the package deal would be an absolute steal for the Heels, and Williams could prove that they are back in national title contention with a couple more commitments like that. I think the ACC is about to take things to another level next season, and they should be the best conference in the country after adding a boatload of talent this offseason.
