P.J. Mbanasor should be one of the best cornerbacks to come out of the 2015 college football recruiting class, and the Oklahoma Sooners just made a statement to the rest of the Big 12 by securing his commitment. My bet is that the fans in Oklahoma will love the shutdown defense that Mbanasor brings to the table. At least they should be excited, because the coaching staff definitely seemed psyched after finding out.
“I called the coaches. They were surprised by it, they had no idea whatsoever, they were hoping I might do it while I was there. They were hoping like everyone else but they didn’t know whatsoever,” Mbanasor said to Rivals. “It was crazy, the staff was all at a little kid’s camp, they were going crazy, and the coaches and stuff were around it was exciting.”
The cornerback also sought his family’s advice about where he should go to school, which was quite wise on his part. Quite a few other programs will probably be saddened by Mbanasor’s decision, and most of all would be the Ohio State Buckeyes. The cornerback mentioned recently how Urban Meyer had been in touch quite a bit, and hopefully the Buckeyes head coach does not take the rejection too seriously.
Since they missed out, the Buckeyes will have to make do with the players who are already on their roster. As for Mbanasor’s impact at the next level? He should make the Sooners into one of the top pass defenses in the nation, and a conference title should be well within their grasp.
