Incoming Recruits Jahlil Okafor and Tyus Jones Will Benefit from Coach K's World Cup Experience

The Duke Blue Devils will be the favorites to win it all in college basketball next season, and there are many reasons why that is true. Jahlil Okafor and Tyus Jones — two high profile commits — come first to mind, but the coaching staff is going to be absolutely locked in this year.

Head coach Mike Krzyzewski and assistant coach Jeff Capel are both in Spain right now, and they are trying to bring home a gold medal from the 2014 FIBA World Cup of basketball. Team USA is favored to win the whole thing, and I would be shocked if they lost to any team other than Team Spain. I hate to scare any Americans right now, but I would honestly favor the Spanish side if that is what the gold medal game ends up coming down to. I claim that mainly due to the fact that Coach K’s squad has played far from their best basketball, which could come back to bite them against a squad that has almost a decade of experience playing together.

One thing remains certain. The Blue Devils’ incoming commits will benefit greatly from Coach K working with a lot of new players this summer and all of the challenges Team USA has faced from a roster perspective. Kevin Durant and Paul George both come to mind but obviously for far different reasons.

Okafor and Jones will seem like steadying forces for the Blue Devils coaching staff after a somewhat improvisational summer, and you can expect the two freshman to be cutting down some nylon next April.
