Border Officials Arrest High School Basketball Star After Learning He's 30 Years Old

By Jason Fletcher

Jonathon Nicola has spent the last six months attending Central Catholic High School in Windsor, Ontario and living with head basketball coach Pete Cusumano. Nicola fled South Sudan last year and dominated for the Central Catholic basketball team over the winter with Cusumano, even telling people that the 17-year-old Nicola was good enough to turn pro one day.

Cusumano’s thinking has probably changed after Nicola was arrested last week by the Canada Border Services Agency for contravening the Immigration Refugee Protection Act. You see, Nicola is actually a 30-year-old man posing as a 17-year-old child and that’s a major issue.

Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board spokesman Stephen Fields told the Windsor Star:

“There’s really not a whole lot to say. Because of the fact this is a matter that’s still outstanding before the federal authorities, obviously we can’t really comment on it. Beyond that there’s not a whole lot to say.”

“Generally I can tell you that we have a system of checks and balances in place,” added Fields, “that whenever international students are coming into any of our schools, we make sure that they have all of the necessary government documentation that they require in order to be in one of our schools.”

Here’s some footage of Nicola dominating kids 13 years younger than him, if you’re interested:

Nicola had a detention review on Tuesday, and he will remain at the detention center until at least next week when he has another hearing.
